Responsibilities of the Junior Field Support Engineer (Fiber) at Hoop Telecoms Limited
- Assist in the laying of fiber optic cables (aerial or underground) and perform termination/splicing of fiber cores.
- Identify and resolve physical fiber faults, such as fiber cuts, using tools like OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) and visual fault locators.
- Conduct routine inspections of the fiber network (Outside Plant – OSP) to ensure optimal performance.
- Visit customer premises or link sites to determine the best cable routing and material requirements.
- Record splicing diagrams, GPS coordinates of fiber routes, and power level readings after every installation.
Criteria & Requirements
- B.Sc / HND in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1 year in Fiber Operations (NYSC or Internship experience is highly valid).
- Basic knowledge of fusion splicing, fiber color coding, and handling fiber testing equipment.
- Physical fitness for field work and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
