2026 Google Summer of Code GSoC | $1650 – $6600 Stipend

Google Summer of Code is a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open source software development.

GSoC Contributors work with an open source organization on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors.

Overview

How does GSoC work?

Students and Developers: Students and developers propose project ideas to participating open-source organizations.
Organizations: Organizations review proposals and select contributors for the summer program.
Start Coding: Accepted applicants are paired with mentors from their chosen organization and start working on their projects.
Submit: Submit the project within the given period.

Criteria for the 2026 Google Summer of Code

Not residing in a U.S.-embargoed country
Age Requirement: You must be 18 years or older at the time of registration.
Experience Level: You must be classified as a beginner in open-source software development or a student.
Participation Limit: You can only be accepted as a GSoC contributor a maximum of one time.
Proposal Submissions: You are allowed to submit up to three project proposals. These proposals can be sent to different organizations or multiple proposals to the same organization.
