What is the Global UGRAD Program?
The Global UGRAD program is open to students from all fields of study and welcomes diversity.
It’s a highly competitive program, and selection is based on academic excellence, leadership potential, and readiness to study in the U.S. Since 2008, over 2,500 students have benefited from this program, using their experiences to become leaders in their fields and communities.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, you need to:
- Be over 18 years old.
- Be a citizen of a participating Global UGRAD country and currently reside there.
- Be a full-time undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited university, with at least one year remaining after the program.
- Have completed secondary education in your home country.
- Have a strong command of English (though some language training might be available for finalists).
- Be ready to start studies in the U.S. either August 2023 or January 2024 (you can’t choose the semester).
- Be eligible for a J-1 U.S. student exchange visa.
- Be medically cleared to participate.
- Be committed to returning to your home country after the program ends.
What’s Included?
The Global UGRAD scholarship covers:
- Full tuition fees for one semester.
- A monthly stipend to help with living expenses.
- Travel costs to and from the U.S.
- Visa support.
- Return airfare.

- Create an account and log in through the U.S. Embassy website for your country.
- Complete the online application, including your academic transcripts, personal statement, and supporting documents. There’s no application fee.
- If you’re selected as a finalist, you’ll need to complete additional steps, such as an English language proficiency test (TOEFL/Duolingo) and submit reference letters.
